Search underway for tax preparer accused of duping local business and disappearing

Manheim Township police are currently searching for a woman accused of criminally mishandling tax documents for a local business after charging them $1640—and then disappearing.

Tiffany Ann Mixell, age 30 of Mechanicsburg, allegedly entered into a contract with a local business after supplying them with an estimate for her work as a tax preparer.

Police say that payment was agreed upon “for all services rendered in two installments” of $820 each, totaling to $1640.

The victim in the case says they paid the installments to Mixell on Jan. 9 and Feb. 24, respectively.

Tiffany A. Mixell “promised to have the services completed by Feb. 28,” which aligned with the contract’s terms that stated “2022 personal taxes will be prepared and timely filed,” according to law enforcement.

Mixel not only failed to complete all the work overviewed in the contract she provided, but the tax documents she did manage turn in were allegedly “improperly prepared.”

The victim told police that Mixell was notified of the errors, “but there was no legitimate attempt made to correct [them] so they could be filed promptly on April 18, when it was due.”

Sometime during this process, Mixell allegedly stopped responding to the victim completely.

At this point, the business had to seek outside services to complete the work for which they originally hired Mixell.

To make matters worse, the victim apparently requested to at least have their documents returned to them, but at this point, “they have not been obtained.”
