Several states are preparing to send out direct payments to their residents to provide inflation relief as Americans struggle with the rising costs of food, gas and housing.
Here are the states that will be sending out stimulus payments to their residents as soon as this month.
Idaho
Idaho sent its first round of rebates in March 2022 and the second round in September 2022.
The state is sending the funds, $300 for single filers and $600 for joint filers, to eligible residents based on when the state’s taxation department received their 2021 tax return.
Idaho’s taxation department will prioritize direct deposit payments followed by paper checks.
The tax commission expects to disburse 800,000 refunds totaling up to $500 million by Friday, March 31.
Maine
Maine is sending residents a $450 check to assist in covering heating costs. By the time all is said and done, about 880,000 people will have received the checks.
The Winter Energy Relief payments started being sent out in January 2023, and all are expected to be mailed by March 31, 2023.
Massachusetts
Taxpayers are eligible for a refund of 14% of their state tax liability. This means that people who filed their 2021 return before Oct. 17, 2022 should have received their refund in December 2022.
Taxpayers, who filed after this date and up to Sept. 15, 2023, should receive their payment a month after they filed their return. You can find more information about the refunds on the state’s tax website.
New Mexico
Residents can receive a refund of $500 for individual filers and $1,000 for joint filers. But here’s the catch: Residents will have until May 2023 to file their 2021 taxes to receive the rebate.
New Jersey
New Jersey is sending residents stimulus funds as property tax rebates.
Homeowners with incomes up to $150,000 get a $1,500 rebate, while those with incomes between $150,000 and $250,000 get $1,000.
Renters also are eligible for a $450 rebate, if they don’t make more than $150,000.
Payments are scheduled to go out the first few months of 2023. Homeowners and renters should get them no later than May 2023.
