The Met office went full drama mode this morning in its description of the unexpected cold snap that’s swept Britain: “A battle between cold Arctic air and milder Atlantic air will result in disruptive snow.” Battle?!
Snow scattered across the British Isles and the plunging temperatures brought a back-up coal-fired station to life for the first time this winter (back to black). Bloomberg reporter Todd Gillespie writes: “Tuesday’s conditions of low wind, high demand and a dearth of imports due to strikes by power station workers in France left the grid struggling to maintain a safe buffer…wind generation has dropped to less than half its usual level.”
